How to Feel Natural in Wedding Photos
(even if you think you’re awkward in front of a camera!)
If the thought of being in front of a camera all day makes you a little nervous… you’re not alone.
One of the most common things my couples tell me is, “We’re so awkward in photos.” And honestly? That’s completely normal. Most people aren’t used to being in front of a camera, especially for something as important as their wedding day.
The good news is you don’t have to be “good at photos” to have images you absolutely love.
It’s Not Your Job to Know What to Do
This is probably the biggest misconception I see.
You don’t need to show up knowing how to pose or what to do with your hands. That’s my job. I’ll guide you through everything in a way that feels natural and easy, so you’re never left wondering what’s next.
My goal is to create an experience where you can just be present with each other, not worrying about how you look every second.
I Focus on Movement, Not Stiff Posing
Instead of placing you in a pose and telling you to hold it, I guide you into movement.
That might look like walking together, laughing, pulling each other in close, or just taking a second to breathe and be in the moment. Those are the moments that feel real, and those are the ones that photograph beautifully.
You don’t need to perform. You just need to show up as yourselves.
You Don’t Have to Be “On” All Day
Your wedding day isn’t a photoshoot from start to finish.
Some of the most meaningful images come from the quiet, in-between moments. A deep breath before you walk down the aisle. A quick glance at each other during dinner. The way your friends and family react to everything happening around you.
I’m always watching for those moments so you don’t have to think about it.
Engagement Sessions Make a Huge Difference
If you’re feeling nervous, this is where engagement sessions come in.
They give you a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera, see how I guide you, and realize that it’s actually… fun. By the time your wedding day comes around, you’ll already know what to expect, which makes everything feel that much easier.
The Right Photographer Changes Everything
At the end of the day, feeling comfortable in your photos has less to do with you and more to do with the experience you’re given.
You deserve someone who helps you feel at ease, gives direction without making things feel forced, and knows when to step in and when to step back. When that balance is there, everything just clicks.
You Deserve to Feel Like Yourself
You don’t need to be perfect. You don’t need to know what you’re doing. You just need to be present, be together, and trust the process.
If you’re looking for a wedding photography experience that feels relaxed, natural, and true to you, I’d love to connect.
