Amanda + Carson

Some wedding days stay with you because of the details.
Others stay with you because of the people.
Amanda and Carson’s wedding will always be one of those days for me.
I was already in the bridal suite that morning when everything started to unfold. Amanda was getting ready surrounded by her people, sitting in the makeup chair as the room filled with laughter and easy anticipation.
She wasn’t even in her dress yet.
And I already knew this was going to be one of those emotional days.
Her family noticed quickly.
“We were taking bets on whether you’d cry right away today!”
They weren’t wrong!
Not long after, I stepped downstairs just as Amanda’s dad arrived. One hug was all it took before the emotions hit again.
From there, the day moved in meaningful layers.
The bridesmaids first look was full of gasps, tears, laughter and energy. The first look with her dad was quieter, more still, the kind of moment where nothing needs to be said.
Then we made our way outside for Amanda and Carson’s first look…
Carson waited, turned around, and immediately said, “WOW. Sweet Martha’s Cookies!”
A beat later, just as stunned, “Holy biscuits!”
It was so perfectly him. Pure joy, no filter, just genuine excitement seeing her for the first time!
They read private vows overlooking the lake, just the two of them, with the water calm and the world feeling still for a moment.
As the day continued, something kept happening in the background that made it feel even more meaningful.
Familiar faces everywhere.
Former volleyball players. Parents I had spent years with in gyms. Conversations that felt like time folding in on itself. Years ago, we were celebrating tournament wins together. Now we were celebrating a wedding.
The ceremony was simple and beautiful, with a harpist playing softly as guests took their seats. Amanda and Carson had already shared their vows privately, so this moment felt like the public celebration of something already deeply understood. They sealed it with a kiss and a dip as they walked back down the aisle to a room full of joy.
Later, we stepped outside for portraits. The sky stayed cloudy, no sunset in sight, but the light was soft and everything felt calm.
And in a lot of ways, that was exactly what the day felt like….Not perfect, just deeply right!
